Indonesia’s Binus University (Universitas Bina Nusantara) announced the establishment of a Taiwan studies center on Wednesday after the university signed an agreement with a Taiwanese official representing the country’s Ministry of Education (MOE). Chen Chung (陳忠), Representative of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO), which functions as Taiwan's de facto embassy in Jakarta, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Bernard Gunawan, chief executive officer at Binus University, and other senior staff of the university on academic exchanges between the two countries, which includes the establishment of a Taiwan studies center. The first public University founded after Taiwan’s economic boom in the 1980′s, National Chung Cheng University broke ground after the Executive Yuan passed the plan to build the university in 1986 in honor of the late president CHIANG Kai-Shek and to develop higher education in the Yun-lin, Chia-yi, and Tainan areas.
